The first thing we are going to look at in the battle of the 2013 Toyota RAV4 vs. the 2013 Honda CR-V is the engines in both vehicles. The Toyota RAV4 near Chicago comes with a 2.5-liter, four- cylinder engine that produces 176-horsepower and is paired with a standard six-speed automatic transmission. The RAV4 has the option of either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
The front-wheel drivetrain will get 24 mpg city and 31 mpg highway; the all-wheel drive version drops a bit to 22 city and 29 highway. The Honda CR-V has a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder and 185-hp. The standard transmission is a five-speed automatic that is a bit outdated. The Honda also has rear and all-wheel drive options and the EPA miles per gallon ratings are within one mile per gallon of the RAV4.
Both vehicles in the 2013 Toyota RAV4 vs. the 2013 Honda CR-V comparison have gone through a refresh or redesign in one way or another. Two of the biggest things returning RAV4 fans will see is one, the spare tire on the rear gate has been taken away and the third row of seating in the RAV4 has met with the same fate. While updating the interior of the 2013 RAV4, Toyota designers took some cues from the Toyota Camry and translated them to the new SUV, making for a very handsome and comfortable interior. Another big change for the Toyota entrant, is the iconic side-hinged tailgate is now hinged at the roofline. This solves a long standing issue that prevented loading the vehicle from the curb.
